3 stunning CES tech releases

Whether you’re a sci-fi fan or are generally interested in gadgets & gizmos, you will appreciate the technology revealed at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

CES is an annual event held in Las Vegas, Nevada every January. It’s organized by the US Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

The CTA is a trade association representing the $505 billion consumer technology industry in the US.

It’s a high-calibre event that demonstrates groundbreaking, life-changing and wacky innovations that have the power to reshape society.

Here are 3 fascinating pieces of tech displayed at CES 2025:

1. Portalgraph 3D VR Projector

Portalgraph is like something from Blade Runner. It’s a technology that projects VR spaces in 3D, allowing you to experience the visual from any angle.

The projections work on screens, table tops and hologram boxes. To use the projection tech, users need the following:

  • A commercially available 3D projector, preferably an ultra-short-throw projector
  • 3D glasses
  • VIVE tracker
  • VIVE base station
  • A PC

Once Portalgraph software is incorporated into these, the screen immediately becomes a VR space.

The system also supports web camera tracking and red and blue 3D glasses. This allows you to experience a VR space with a regular PC as well.

    2. Body Scan Mirror

The French company Withings debuted its full-body “health screening mirror” called Omnia. The mirror is more of a screen designed to assess physical health information and communicate it back in an inspiring, helpful manner.

It’s a blend of Smart Scale, Smart Watch and AI assistant.

Withings goal is for Omnia to measure biometrics like heart rate, pH levels, muscle composition, sleep quality and exercise recovery. It can also share medical data with doctors and make telehealth appointments on behalf of the owner.

Ideally, Omnia will be compatible with smartwatches to merge information and provide a more comprehensive health overview.

Understandably, concerns about data privacy and accuracy have risen in response.

While those concerns are entirely valid and should be questioned, many argue that our data is already accessible and is collected/owned on a mass scale by tech companies.

With that said, there are and should be boundaries in just how detailed that data is.

    3. NVIDIA Project DIGITS

The very popular chipmaker, NVIDIA, announced its new AI supercomputer for release in May.

Project DIGITS utilizes the company’s new GB10 Grace Blackwell chip to power the new supercomputer.

NVIDIA’S website describes the DIGITS as follows:

“With the NVIDIA AI software stack preinstalled and 128GB of memory, developers can prototype, fine-tune, and infer large AI models of up to 200B parameters locally, and seamlessly deploy to the data center or cloud.”

Typically, devices with this type of processing power require large power systems.

However, these supercomputers are very compact, can fit onto your desk and only need a standard power outlet.

AI demands a lot of energy. Digits could be a way to manage this and reduce the resources needed to use AI effectively.

    Honourable Mention

An honourable mention goes to the Electric Salt Spoon by Kirin Holdings based out of Toyko.

Unlike the other items in this article, this spoon isn’t an AI-powered device.

It uses electricity to “shock” your sense of taste into thinking a food is saltier than it is. The spoon is said to bring on the umami flavour in food.

Of course, the goal is to help people reduce their sodium intake and, therefore improve their health.

A light electric current runs from the tip of the spoon to the food to create a salty and umami taste.

The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon comes in two pieces: the spoon and the detachable handle. The handle has “menu” buttons that allow the user to adjust the power of the salt flavour.

Kirin said they want to foster a society where people can improve their lifestyle without sacrificing taste.
