Elon Musk grimacing. Tesla sales dropped 49% in Europe

Battery low: Tesla sales drop almost 50% in Europe

Tesla sales in Europe dropped 49% in the first two months of 2025 compared to last year’s sales — despite that EV sales in general increased 28.4%, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

In January and February, the number of Teslas sold fell from 37,311 to 19,046 in the same period in 2024.

An oversupply of aging Teslas shows signs of waning customer interest. And of course, a growing negative sentiment towards Elon Musk and his concerning behaviour has sparked boycotts.

Musk’s affiliation with the Trump administration and his endorsement of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party has inspired heavy backlash across the EU.

Meanwhile, Chinese EV producer, BYD reported a record 777.1 billion yuan (US$107 billion) in revenue for 2024, seeing electric and hybrid vehicle sales boost 40%.

On top of that, BYD announced the release of a new EV charging system that it claimed to be as efficient as filling up with a gas pump.

Tesla has also suffered from its sweeping recalls. It recalled nearly all Cybertrucks out in “the wild” for the 8th time in just over a year due to a design flaw.

The windshield panelling can fly off when driving the vehicle, creating an unnecessary road hazard.

What do you think is in store for Tesla in 2025?
